Samantha Leininger is a Birth Doula and owner of Virago Birth Services. We asked her a couple of questions to get to know her better.
What do you do in your role?
I come alongside women and families in preparation for and during the childbirth process through emotional, physical, and educational support.
What is your favorite problem to solve for your clients?
My favorite problem to solve, or to discover, is the source of fears and concerns as my clients approach childbirth. As my clients overcome and work through the fears, my client can more confidently enter childbirth and experience the beautiful birth desired.
What is a success story you've had in your role?
I had a client family looking for a doula after an unexpected transfer to the hospital during pregnancy. Looking for a natural and unmedicated birth, their high risk status and later breech baby made for unlikely chances of their desired birth. Through their persistence, honest and welcoming dialogue with their birth team at appointments, our weekly night chats, and appointments of all kinds, the baby not only turned head down by means of EMV but my client went into labor naturally and birthed without medication or pressure at the hospital. It was beautiful and I'm so thankful for their birth team.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading books, or getting some alone time to dream in a coffee shop!
What is a helpful tip you'd like to share with the local birth community?
My helpful tip is to continue to work together and encourage open, non-judgmental dialogue with the community as we seek to improve education for the pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and raising children.
