Meet the Birth Professional: Cara DeLeon Graham, DMD Pediatric Dentist

Cara is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist and owner of Pediatric Dentistry of Savannah. We asked her a couple of questions to get to know her better.

What is your favorite problem to solve for your clients?

Treating early childhood decay customized to the unique needs of our patients.

What is a success story you've had in your role?

Restoring the smile of a 1 year old that had been told that all four front teeth needed to be extracted due to severe early childhood caries. I also love working through the dental anxiety of children that may have had difficult experiences in the past or sensory issues. My style of practice takes time and patience but the results of a healthy happy smile is totally worth the effort!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love exploring new towns, food and culture with my husband, a commercial pilot. Here in Savannah I love being on the water, working in my garden and playing outside with my sweet toddlers and furry Airedale terrier, Skipper.

What is a helpful tip you'd like to share with the local birth community?

Breastfeeding a child is the very best choice you can make for your child but night nursing after the eruption of the first tooth (around 6 months) can put your child at a higher risk for early childhood cavities. Establish a dental home by your child's first birthday. Fluoride use, feeding frequency and food choices, brushing/flossing routines, frenectomies, and pacifiers can all be hot topics for parents just wanting what is best for their child. Be honest with your dentist about these topics, we are here to help, NEVER judge!
